In line with the drive to immerse students in online learning, industry leader STI Education Services Group (STI), recently systemized its curriculum to now include e-learning courses in all its 104 tertiary schools nationwide.
Starting this academic year, all STI freshmen students shall take up Office Productivity Tools or OPT which is now a standard part of all of STI's curricula for both BS and Diploma Courses.
According to Assistant Vice President for Academics John B. Tubongbanua, this fortified learning approach aims to promote information and communication technology (ICT) proficiency among its students through the use of web-based training.
“E-learning or web-based training reinforces classroom instruction at the same time strengthens ICT skills of our students. It also serves as supplement materials in our other courses,” Mr. Tubongbanua added.
STI also uses e-learning to train its faculty members and employees.
Yapster e-Learning, Inc. provides STI with the technology-based courses which initially include International Computer Driving License (ICDL) courses – primary content of STI’s OPT. ICDL is a basic course on computer usage including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, computer basics, and the World Wide Web.
Forthcoming e-learning courses include software vendor-approved content from Microsoft, Cisco, Netscape, Novell, and Oracle. These learning materials are designed in such a way that would make every student’s certification ready at the end of the course. A series of certification preparation training curriculum such as Java, Visual Basic, and Web Development will also be included.
