In an effort to deliver online learning to its students, Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT) has recently launched its e-learning engine dubbed Educonline to be offered starting school year 2002-2003.
E-learning vendors namely Hewlett-Packard Phils. and Yapster e-Learning, Inc. helped Mapua come up with a more profound IT curriculum. Thus, almost 150 freshmen students, together with faculty members have undergone IT courses to couple their regular classroom experience and training. Sample modules available through the Internet include Basic Business Grammar modules, (add some more topics) and (some more courses).
Educonline is Mapua's answer to the growing demand for e-learning in the country. It offers rich multimedia capabilities and features a host of courses developed and maintained by Mapua Tech faculty through the help of their partners. The comprehensive e-learning curriculum of Mapua also provides education to the multifaceted learning community composed of students coming from different status, location, age and genders.
"We have identified the rising power and pervasiveness of Internet use, more especially among the students, that is why we at Mapua saw the need to incorporate special competencies in our curriculum to address a wider range of people," Ms. Armi M. Lapidez, Mapua's e-learning coordinator explained.
Miss Arlene K. Yap, CEO of Yapster e-Learning expressed her support to Mapua in their aim to use new technology in upgrading education in the Philippines.
